LearnKata

Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 16, 2026

Information We Collect

We collect information you provide directly to us, such as when you create an account, use our services, or contact us for support.

Account Information

  • Name: Your name, for account identification and personalization
  • Email Address: For account creation, communication, and service notifications

Learning Content

LearnKata is a learning platform, so the content you create and study with is central to the service. This includes:

  • Questions and messages you send to the AI tutor
  • Study materials you upload (documents, PDFs, and photos of notes)
  • Quiz answers, results, and practice history
  • Notes you write and edit in the app
  • Audio recordings you make and their transcripts
  • Study plans and learning progress

Payment Information

When you make a purchase on our website, payments are processed by our payment processor, Stripe. When you subscribe through our iOS app, payment is processed by Apple through the App Store, and our subscription-management provider, RevenueCat, receives purchase records. We do not store your complete payment card details on our servers.

Usage and Analytics Information

We automatically collect certain information about your use of our services through our analytics provider, PostHog, including:

  • Pages and screens visited and features used
  • Time spent on our platform
  • Device and browser information
  • IP address and general location information

Analytics events describe what you did (for example, that a message was sent and how long it was), not what you wrote β€” we do not include the content of your messages or study materials in analytics events.

AI Processing

LearnKata's tutoring features are powered by third-party AI model providers, such as OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google. To generate responses, lessons, quizzes, and summaries, we send relevant learning content to these providers, including:

  • Your questions and conversation history with the AI tutor
  • Study materials you upload and ask the AI to work with
  • Quiz answers being graded and notes being edited with AI assistance
  • Your preferred response language

We do not send your name, email address, or account identifiers to AI providers. However, if you include personal information inside the content you write or upload, that content is processed as part of the request.

We ask for your consent in the app before your content is first shared with AI providers. You can withdraw this consent at any time by contacting us at [email protected] or by signing out of the app, and consent is requested again before any further AI processing. AI providers process this content to provide the service to us; their handling is governed by our agreements with them and their privacy policies, and we do not permit them to use it for advertising.

Session Recordings

To understand where our product is confusing and improve it, we may record how the LearnKata web app and mobile app are used during a session (the screens visited and interactions made). On the web, sensitive input fields are masked. In the mobile app, all typed text and all images are masked. These recordings are used only for product improvement, are retained for up to 90 days, and are never used for advertising.

How We Use Your Information

We do not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer your personal information to third parties, except in the following circumstances:

  • AI Providers: Learning content is shared with third-party AI model providers to power tutoring features, as described in the AI Processing section above and only with your consent
  • Service Providers: We share information with trusted providers who help us operate the platform: Stripe (web payments), Apple and RevenueCat (iOS subscriptions), PostHog (analytics and session recordings), and our hosting and infrastructure providers

All third-party service providers are contractually obligated to maintain the confidentiality and security of your personal information and are prohibited from using it for any purpose other than providing services to us.

We implement appropriate technical and organizational security measures to protect your personal information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction.

Our security measures include:

While we strive to protect your personal information, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security, but we continuously work to maintain and improve our security practices.

Data Retention

Specifically:

  • Account Information: Retained while your account is active and for a reasonable period after account closure
  • Learning Content: Your chats, uploads, notes, quizzes, and study plans are retained while your account is active so you can continue learning from them, and are deleted when your account is deleted

Email Communications: You can opt out of promotional emails at any time by using the unsubscribe link in our emails or by updating your preferences in your account settings.

Cookies and Tracking Technologies

We use various technologies to collect information about your use of our services:

Local Storage

We use local storage to store information locally on your device, such as user preferences and session data. This helps improve your experience by remembering your settings and maintaining your session.

Session Management

We use session technologies to maintain your login state and provide a seamless experience across our platform. Sessions expire after a period of inactivity for security purposes.

Analytics

We use PostHog to understand how users interact with our platform. This helps us improve our services and user experience.

Note: We do not display advertisements on our platform, do not use retargeting for advertising purposes, and do not track you across other companies' apps or websites.

Third-Party Services

We integrate with certain third-party services to provide and improve our platform:

Google and Apple Sign-In

When you choose to sign in with Google or with Apple, we receive basic profile information (name, email) from that provider. These integrations are governed by Google's and Apple's privacy policies, and you can manage permissions through your account settings with those providers. If you use Apple's Hide My Email, we only receive the private relay address Apple creates for you.

Payments: Stripe and the App Store

We use Stripe to process payments on the web. Stripe handles all payment card information and is PCI DSS compliant. On iOS, subscriptions are purchased through Apple's App Store and managed with RevenueCat; Apple handles your payment details and we never see them.

AI Model Providers

Tutoring features are powered by third-party AI model providers such as OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google, as described in the AI Processing section above.

Analytics: PostHog

We use PostHog for product analytics and session recordings as described above, in accordance with PostHog's privacy policy and our configuration choices.

These third-party services have their own privacy policies and terms of service. We encourage you to review their policies to understand how they collect and use your information.
